Andrew Hamer is the Master Instructor and owner of the Sawbuck Do Jang in Whitefish, Montana. Andy’s business needed to update his old static website to one that functions as a powerful marketing and communications tool for current and new students.
He also wanted to have better search engine visibility to attract locals and tourist visitors who are looking for martial arts fitness and wellness practice offerings.
By filling out the FlyGirls Website Worksheet we were able to identify three key business needs:
- Create a blogging platform to increase awareness about eastern philosophy and well-being through the traditional practice of martial arts.
- Increase enrollment by following up leads that come through the website.
- Support the studio business by adding class schedules, showcasing events and highlighting student stories and offer a simple online payment option via Paypal
Redesigning my web presence with a sophisticated, eye catching design was just a sampling of all that FlyGirlsMedia did for my business. JJ was also able to direct me in developing improved business practices. She was always more thorough than I could have asked for in all of my requests.

Working with the talented Green Kat Photography , we were able to visually share Andy’s story by showcasing his current students in action in his martial arts studio.
The photography lets the viewers visualize what the classes are like, the studio atmosphere and get an overall sense of the martial arts offerings at the Sawbuck Do Jang.
Andy is a sol0 business owner who is juggling all aspects of running a business. It was important to Andy that the website was easy to understand and navigate. He was familiar with WordPress and after a quick training tutorial, he is now able to make content changes, add current events, update photos and write blog posts.
I used Beaver Builder as his theme – which is a drag and drop WordPress Page Builder – that is fully responsive and works across a range of mobile devices and is SEO-friendly.
After we launched the Sawbuck Do Jang’s new website, Andy and I continued to work together to creatively come up with ideas to bring more awareness in the community about his martial arts classes. Andy has approached school administrators to offer demonstrations to younger students, he is teaching classes outside his studio and he is asking his current students to more involved in helping with new students.
Andy and I have discussed several easy to implement strategies to expand his business profile around the local community and within his industry. He is definitely more confident that his website now represents his professional studio.
I am encouraging Andy to write more about the benefits of traditional martial arts, adding student stories with testimonials. We are also brainstorming other ways we can incorporate other events in his studio to be more active in the community and partnering with other businesses in the health and wellness fields.
If you’re interested in traditional martial arts for you or your kids, this is definitely the place to send them! Learn about their class offerings from the subtle elegance of T’ai Chi & Qi Gong to the dynamic form and fighting skills of Soo Bahk Do.
Sawbuck Do Jang is conveniently located across from the Whitefish Middle School right in downtown Whitefish. Make sure to stop by and say hi to Andy and his adorable dog, Maggio! (ps – bring treats, Maggio loves them!)
