Web Writing 101

WEBSITE WRITING BASICS

I found this great infographic this morning about The Perfect Anatomy of a Modern Web Writer from our friends at Copyblogger.

It’s full of really useful information if you are starting out with building your own site, starting a blog or want to be a better copywriter for other businesses.

The truth is, we are all perfecting our language for use on the web. Think about your own reading habits. Some of us are skimming, some of us are doing more in depth research and some of us are reading full articles for the storytelling.

My favorite these days is Brain Pickings,  which is completely ad-free and supported solely by readers! If you’re into what matters in the world and why, then you need to check this site out.

More Than Just Words

There is definitely more to being a web writer than just having a talent for being a wordsmith.

You need to understand how search engines work, why quality content is important, and the value of a strong headline.

Then you have to understand who your end user is. Web writing for a website whose end users are medical professionals will need a different writing style than a site designed for say, foodies or fashion bloggers.

The internet if full of amazing content. If you want your voice to stand out from all the noise, think about upping your game as a copywriter.

So grab a cuppa, sit down, review your website and see if you can find a way to tell your story a little better.
